“Playing It My Way” is the autobiography of former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. It was launched on 5 November 2014 in Mumbai. The book summarises Tendulkar’s early days, his 24 years of international career and aspects of his life that have not been shared publicly.
The book entered the Limca Book of Records for being the best selling adult hardback across both fiction and non-fiction categories.
The book is the journey of the master batsman revisited by none other than Sachin himself!
Sachin writes his story with complete honesty just the way he always played his game. He talks about a number of aspects he has not shared in public before. His honesty and humble nature is seen when he recounts a valuable piece of advice given to him by his father when he was a young boy.
So as Sachin takes a last walk back to the pavilion, he recounts as many incidents as he can remember since he first picked up a cricket bat as a child in Mumbai more than thirty-five years ago.
The book covers almost all moments like the Ranji centuries, the Waqar bouncer, the maiden century, the Australia tours, opening in ODIs, the world cups and many more.
On the personal front it covers his multiple matches under Achrekar Sir, staying at his uncle’s house, the Kambli partnership, wearing disguises to watch a movie, losing his father, love of food, the captaincy and he also talks about his multiple injuries.
This book about the God of cricket certainly tells us that, there was cricket before Sachin and there will be cricket after Sachin. But cricket will never be the same without Sachin.
In the world full of fiction super heroes, he stands apart. His super journey was indeed a real one.
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is thus the epitome of heroism. And “Playing it My Way” is twenty eight years of Sachinism!
